Over the past few years Denis McArdle, Anthony Kelly & David Stalling have worked together on a series of short experimental films. These short films come from combining their different backgrounds. This dvd, released by Songway Films & aphasia recordings collects three of these films together for the first time. The short films included on the dvd are 'Undertow','Room' & 'Toxin'.
Fragility, loss and memory are three of the themes explored by the artists within the pieces. Working out from the discussion of a basic idea, each film was then shot quickly, usually within a day, using the minimum of set-up and equipment. Often the editing process revealed the structure and form of the piece and the subsequent cut was then sound tracked. All three pieces use unconventional soundtracks. While 'Room' & 'Undertow' developed out from this shooting & editing technique, 'Toxin' was loosely based on a poem of the same name given by poet Patrick Chapman and includes visual representations of the text within the film.
